Hello, I’m Krista Senden.

I am a Clinical Social Worker with over fourteen years’ experience providing counselling and mental health support across humanitarian, refugee and specialist trauma services in Australia and internationally.

Guided by a strong commitment to social justice and human dignity, Krista has worked extensively with individuals and communities affected by trauma, displacement and significant life adversity. Earlier in her career she spent five years working within humanitarian contexts, including providing psychosocial and mental health support in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya and in urban asylum settings in Bangkok, Thailand. These experiences deepened her understanding of how trauma, loss and prolonged stress can shape people’s lives.

Krista has also worked for many years within specialist trauma and grief services in Australia. Through this work she has developed strong expertise in working with complex trauma, grief, depression, emotional distress and the impact of prolonged stress.

Krista now provides counselling for adults seeking support with trauma, mental health concerns and difficult life circumstances. Her approach is thoughtful, compassionate and grounded in evidence-based practice, offering a space where people can reflect, regain clarity and move toward meaningful change.

My Approach

My approach to counselling is relational, respectful and grounded in trauma-informed practice.

People often seek counselling when life begins to feel overwhelming or when ongoing difficulties start to affect their wellbeing, relationships or sense of direction. You may be navigating work stress, family pressures, loss, past trauma, relationship challenges, depression, anxiety or a general sense of feeling stuck.

Counselling offers a supportive space to slow down and reflect on what you are experiencing. Together we work to understand the patterns, experiences and pressures that may be shaping your current situation, with the aim of building insight, strengthening emotional stability and supporting meaningful change.

In our work together, I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches depending on your needs and preferences. This may include practices that support present-moment awareness and self-compassion, approaches that build on personal strengths, and therapies that help people process difficult experiences and better understand patterns in thoughts, emotions and relationships. I also incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) principles and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
